"That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death;" (Philippians 3:10). How do you get to know someone? If someone asked you if you know a celebrity or famous person, you might say yes, but do you really know them? Do you know their favorite color? Do you know what their favorite food is? Do you know what their likes and dislikes are? Do you know what makes them truly happy? Do you know all the details of their lives? If not, then you do not know them. You only know about them. They are just an acquaintance. In order to really get to know someone, you must spend time with them and talk with them. Paul was an apostle of Jesus Christ. He had such a relationship with the Lord that so many before and after did not have. At one time, he was such an unrighteous man. His name was Saul at that time. He actually persecuted Christians and enjoyed it. He was on his way to persecute Christians when he met Jesus on the road to Damascus. "And Saul, yet breathing out threatenings and slaughter against the disciples of the Lord, went unto the high priest, And desired of him letters to Damascus to the synagogues, that if he found any of this way, whether they were men or women, he might bring them bound unto Jerusalem. And as he journeyed, he came near Damascus: and suddenly there shined round about him a light from heaven: And he fell to the earth, and heard a voice saying unto him, Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me? And he said, Who art thou, Lord? And the Lord said, I am Jesus whom thou persecutest: it is hard for thee to kick against the pricks. And he trembling and astonished said, Lord, what wilt thou have me to do? And the Lord said unto him, Arise, and go into the city, and it shall be told thee what thou must do." (Acts 9:1-6). After he had this encounter with Jesus, his life was radically changed. His name was even changed to Paul. Paul served the Lord and became an apostle to many churches in the world at that time. He had a special relationship with the Lord; yet he states that he wants to know the Lord. He was not content with the depth of his knowledge of who Jesus is. He was striving to continue to learn more about Jesus. How much do you know Jesus? Do you just know about Him or do you really know Him? Are you determined to continue to learn more about Him? Do you spend time with Him daily? Do you talk with Him (not just to Him, there is a difference). is a Friend or acquaintance? Can you say as the Apostle Paul said, "That I may know Him"? Is that your heart's desire? |
