Where Are You?

"And the Lord God called unto Adam, and said unto him, Where art thou?" (Genesis 3:9).

If you have ever been in a large building; such as a mall, airport, arena or somewhere like that, you have probably seen those maps of the building on the wall and an "X" stating "You Are Here".  Now, why would you  need the "X" telling you that "You Are Here"?  You know where you are. You can look around and see where you are.  Well, the answer is clear. The reason you need to know where you are is to make sure you can map out your route to your destination. You know where you want to go, but if you do not know where you are, then you will not be able to find the right path to get there.

It is the same when looking at a map. If you have somewhere you want to travel, you need to find the correct path to get there. The only way the path can be mapped out is to first determine where you are.

Adam and Eve had disobeyed God's command. He told them that they could not eat from the tree of knowledge of good and evil. This was a command. They ate the fruit from that tree in direct disobedience. When they heard God's voice coming to talk with them as He had done every day before, they felt guilty and afraid. They decided to go hide; thinking He couldn't find them.  So, in the above verse, God asked Adam where he was. Now, God knew exactly where Adam was, He just wanted to see if Adam knew where Adam was. Adam had veered off the correct path, and God was bringing it to his attention.

In this journey called life, we all are heading toward a destination. There are many turns, detours, and intersections. God has given us a map (the Bible), to show us how to get to our destination.  This map shows us the path to take, where to turn, where to stop and wait, and when to go forward. This map is the inspired Word of God and God would never lead us in the wrong direction. He can be trusted and we need to always follow His leading.

However, in order to follow the map effectively, we must first find out where we are. This sounds simple, but there are so many people in this world who not only  do not know where they are going, but have no idea where they are. They think they are on the right path, when in reality, they are very far from the path. They think they are in the fellowship of Christ, but in reality, they are far from Him. The devil will often distort our perspective and make us believe we are on the right path, while all the while, we are running around in circles day after day after day. We must stay focused every day; making sure that our every step is ordered by the Lord.

"The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord: and he delighteth in his way." (Psalm 37:23).

"Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore." (Psalm 16:11).

So, first of all, do you know where you are going? Are you going to Heaven? Heaven is only for those who accept Jesus as their Savior. Not everyone is going to Heaven.  Are you staying on the right path? Are you following the map?  Now, do you know where you are right now?  Are you headed in the right direction?   Make sure the path you are taking is the one God has designed for you. Only then will you find true joy, peace and love. The wrong path leads to destruction.

"Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat:  Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it." (Matthew 7:14-15).
