"Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God." (Hebrews 12:2).
Have you ever driven down the road and suddenly as you go around a curve or make a turn, you discover the sun is in your eyes! Sometimes if the sun is positioned a certain way, it is almost impossible to see anything else. You can't see the trees, houses, other vehicles, or sometimes even the road. You put your hand up to shield the rays somewhat so you may safely drive farther down the road. This is obviously very dangerous and can cause accidents very quickly.
Taking this same thought; however, we as God's children are traveling this road we call life. It has potholes, hills, ditches, curves, intersections, and construction zones. We must be alert at all times; watching out for anything that will cause us to veer off course. The enemy will put anything in our path to cause us delays and problems. If we aren't alert and paying attention, we will not reach our destination (Heaven) safely; and all the people who are following us will also not reach the destination safely.
In the natural sense, when the sun is in our eyes, it is painful and dangerous. It makes driving difficult and unsafe. However; in the Spiritual sense, the only way we must travel down this road called life is with the SON (Jesus) in our eyes. We must look at the SON, we must keep our eyes on the SON, we must seek after the SON, follow the SON, and never take our eyes off the SON. Jesus is our only hope. He is our Savior, our Healer, our Deliverer, our Redeemer, our Friend, our only Hope. He is our everything. If we lose sight of Him, we will miss everything.
"Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth." (Colossians 3:2).
We must keep our eyes on Jesus at all times; not looking to the right nor to the left. He will lead us in the way we should go, and if we are not looking at Him, we cannot follow Him. He wants people who will look to Him for everything, everyday. He wants us to stay focused on Him. He is a great God and does nothing but good for His children.
In Matthew 14, we have the story of Peter who was in a boat. A bad storm came and he and his friends were afraid. It was night, it was dark, it was scary. They saw someone walking on the water, and Peter asked Jesus if it was Him tell Peter to come to Him, so Jesus said, "Come". Peter got out of the boat, and for a moment began to walk on the water. But......
"But when he saw the wind boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink, he cried, saying, Lord, save me." (Matthew 14:20).
At the moment that Peter took his eyes off of Jesus, and focused on the storm around him, he began to sink. When we focus on our circumstances, our problems, our trials, our sadness, and get our eyes off of Jesus, our Waymaker, our Need Meeter, then we will sink as well.
There's an old song that says, "Turn your eyes upon Jesus, look full in His wonderful face, and the things of this earth will grow strangely dim in the light of His glory and grace." (Written by Helen Howarth Lemmel in the early 1900's).
Just as travelling facing the sun causes us to see nothing but the sun, travelling through life facing the SON will cause us to see nothing but the SON! Turn your eyes toward Jesus today. There is nothing in this world worth focusing on. Jesus has all the answers. Look to Him. Call upon Him and trust Him to be your Lord and Savior. Then you will be able to say, "The SON is in my eyes!"
